Find the tour schedule here.

Release date: April 21st 2014

BOOK DESCRIPTION:
Trapped in a dark cult, sixteen-year-old Naomi Aren has lived a quiet, albeit unhappy, life nestled deep in the hills of the Ozarks. With uncut hair, denim skirts, and only roses for friends, Naomi seldom questions why her life is different from other kids at school. Until the day her abusive father, who is also the cult’s leader, announces her wedding. Naomi must marry Dwayne Yerdin, a bully who reeks of sweat and manure and is the only one person who scares her worse than her father.

Then she meets Kai, the mysterious boy who brings her exotic new roses and stolen midnight kisses. Kisses that bring her a supernatural strength she never knew she had. As the big day approaches, Naomi unearths more secrets about her father’s cult. She learns she has power of her own and while Kai may have awakened that power, Naomi must find a way to use it to escape Dwayne and her father—without destroying herself.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Kimberly Loth can’t decide where she wants to settle down. She’s lived in Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Utah, California, Oregon, and South Carolina. She finally decided to make the leap and leave the U.S. behind for a few years. Currently, she lives in Cairo, Egypt with her husband and two kids.

She is a high school math teacher by day (please don’t hold that against her) and YA author by night. She loves romantic movies, chocolate, roses, and crazy adventures. Kissed is her first novel.

Fave Quotes:

1)      "The kiss lasted only seconds but was soft and deliberate, leaving me longing for more."

2)      "My hands bear many scars from thorns. But they are worth the pain, for from pain comes beauty."

3)      "“You are only saying that because you love me right now, you won’t be so understanding tomorrow. Try not to throw anything sharp at me when I come to get you.”"

4)      "Surfing was not my thing. I swallowed enough salt water to make a jellyfish happy."

5)      "When I woke up the next morning I didn’t feel like I wanted to drown Puck in the pool so I figured I was getting over my anger."

6)      "“For future reference if you want to keep someone from suspecting anything unusual use mint and Michael Jackson. That seems to the best combination. I don’t know why.”"

7)      “There is no way she can make a decision that big with hair like that.”

3/5 stars

Naomi Aren’s parents are part of a dark cult. They control her life and abuse her. The only joy in Naomi’s life is her greenhouse of roses. One day her father tells Naomi that she will be marrying Dwayne, a young man who is cruel and also part of the cult. Naomi thinks that her life is over until she meets Kai who shares her love for roses and kisses her during the night. Kai awakens the need to be free in Naomi and she must try and find a way to escape from her parents and her impending unwanted marriage.

The positive points – This was a unique read with an interesting plot and characters. Naomi was relatable and I enjoyed reading as she grew and developed as a character. There was a big twist that I didn’t see coming and the ending leaves you wanting more.

The negative points – I was slightly disappointed when I realised there was a love triangle and it was obvious (to me at least) who Naomi would go with at the end. I also wasn’t a fan of the whole Guardians getting their energy from kisses thing. Call me strange but a guy coming into your room at night to kiss you is just creepy.

Overall this was an enjoyable and unique read that I would recommend.
