Synopsis:

After a nasty breakup, twenty-two-year-old Devin Ashford is on a mission to travel the world one random excursion at a time. He wants to forget his ex, discover new experiences and end up with some awesome stories to tell. If it takes spending all of his savings to do it, he is ready.

His first stop is a communal homestead in the Appalachians of North Carolina, which turns out to be a bohemian paradise. The weed is plentiful, the owners adore him, and the very sight of Cora, their nineteen-year-old goddaughter, makes him want to set up a permanent camp.

Cora warns that she isn’t ready for a serious relationship, but Devin is falling hard. Playful kisses turn into passionate sex, and each day is spent connecting and enjoying the mind-numbing awesomeness—until he makes the mistake of saying “I love you.” Discussing the future kills the good vibes, and Cora pushes him away.
Pissed off and rejected, Devin begins preparing for his next excursion: backpacking India. But just when it’s time to go, the death of one of the homestead’s beloved animals leaves Cora upset and in need of a friend. Devin’s kindness wins him another shot at romance.

With a plane ticket in hand and his pride on the line, Devin and Cora find themselves teetering on the edge of something more.

When did you start writing?

I was very young. My parents let me use their typewriter. This was before everyone had computers and Internet, so—a really long time ago! I didn’t get serious until my mid-twenties when I was hit with a sudden, deep knowing that I needed to write. I was doing a lot of painting at the time, and I totally switched my focus.

‪What makes you want to write?

So many things! I daydream a lot and have even crazier dreams at night, so it’s fun to capture those stories—or bits of them anyway. To see a world and be able to make it real for other people is the coolest thing.

‪Do you ever get writer's block and what do you do to get over it?

Yes! But I get it in weird ways. I’m usually good to go unless I get hung up on logistics. I can’t get a grasp on the details of the story until I go through it quite a few times and tweak things. I can get stuck doing research for hours unless I give myself permission to skip it for now. For example, if I haven’t decided the setting, I just say [city] and keep going.

‪Do you have a special way of going about writing?

Always with the right music. My Pandora account is a finely tuned painting of my soul. I also prefer to write at night.

Do you have any works in progress?

Yes. Four. And a lot more ideas! I write in various genres and enjoy many types of stories.

‪What are your hobbies?

Cooking, fitness, and hula hooping.

‪How did you choose the character names for Edge of Something More?

It popped into my head as soon as I thought of him. I’ve always liked the name Kevin, and Devin was even better. Cora’s name also came along with my first thoughts of her.

‪Who is your favourite character in ‪Edge of Something More?

If I have to choose just one, it would be Devin. He’s the main character because he’s the one I know the best. However, I understand Cora more as time goes on. It’s hard to open up to love, especially when you have a connection as powerful as what these two feel for each other. It’s so strong, they can’t give into it halfway.

‪How did you get the idea for ‪Edge of Something More?

One night, I was taking a bath, and a vision of this guy popped into my head. I had been thinking about doing the WWOOF thing for a while, so that’s what I saw him doing. I saw him having a romance, and over the next few weeks, the general idea of the place and the story started to materialize.

‪What was your favourite part of writing ‪Edge of Something More?

The escape. I am probably alive today because I had this story to escape into. I was in a toxic relationship during a lot of the time I was writing this book. Focusing on writing helped me keep it together until I could eventually get out and start my life over. Being in control of a world, and attempting to guide that world with honesty, can be really healing. Especially when you’re experiencing a loss of control over your own life.

‪

‪What are you currently reading?

The Maze Runner series. I love it!

‪What is your favourite book?

I have so many. I loved Clive Barker’s The Great and Secret Show. I loved The Beach by Alex Garland. When it comes to romance, Louder than Words by Iris St. Clair was a recent favorite. We are the People Our Parents Warned Us Against by Nicholas Von Hoffman comes to mind if we’re talking non-fiction.

‪Who is your favourite author?

I don’t think I could possibly have one favorite, but I’ll forever be thankful to Emily Barr for writing Backpack, a book with a bad-ass female character that helped inspire me to travel on my own.

‪

‪What is your favourite film?

I love horror, romance, thrillers, action—if it’s good, I’m down for anything. I love anything that involves the end of the world or surviving some huge catastrophe. I love classic romances like Pretty Woman, It Could Happen to You, and The Goodbye Girl.

‪What is your favourite TV show?

I am a loyal Survivor fan! I’ve seen every episode. For scripted shows, I like Breaking Bad, LOST, Walking Dead, and American Horror Story

‪Quick-fire questions:

‪Chocolate or ice cream? Dark chocolate.

 Paperback or ebook? Ebook!

 ‪Dogs or cats? Cats.

‪Go out or stay in? Stay in.

 ‪Summer or winter? Summer.
