When did you start writing?

I’ve always loved to write. My best friend and I wrote a screenplay when we were eleven. But, I started writing things that turned into books about ten years ago.

What makes you want to write?

It’s how I work out all the clutter in my brain so I can live a normal human life.

Do you ever get writer's block and what do you do to get over it?

I listen to music mostly. Sometimes I’ll read. But never the genre I’m writing. I’ll pick up a sci-fi book or memoir, just to get me interested in words again.

Do you have a special way of going about writing?

Not really. I don’t have a writing hat or a specific time of day that I set aside. I don’t sit down and aim for 10,000 words. When I’m in the middle of a work in progress, I always read everything I wrote the day before, then start writing. And I always make sure I have lots of coffee on hand.

Do you have any works in progress?

I have five! Two of those will be published this year. The rest are very rough outlines at this point.

What are your hobbies?

I used to run. I did a bunch of Spartan Races and a Tough Mudder, but I’m retired now. I love to snowboard!

Who is your favourite character in The Lunam Ceremony?

That would have to be Layla. She is the mother of my main character. She is strong and loving, she’d do anything to insure her daughter’s happiness. She is everything a mom should be.

How did you get the idea for The Lunam Ceremony?

I wanted to write a modern day version of the Tudors. Well that was the idea. I wanted to create a world where arranged marriages and heirs to bloodlines still existed. I couldn’t write it in a way that made the characters likable. It felt too much like a cult. So, I made them wolves. Somehow turning them into humans that phase to wolves, made the story more believable. A girl born into a bloodline that forces her to conceive a child to save a dying species, seems more acceptable than a girl forced into an arranged marriage and pressured to have a child that will retain her family’s power. It’s all perception. In the end, it’s the same story which is ultimately about
family.

What was your favourite part of writing The Lunam Ceremony?

I love writing about the pack and their daily life. The pack is very political, so I was able to insert some of my socialist views into how the pack is run.

What are you currently reading?

I’m not really reading anything right now, because I’m writing. The last book I read was F*ck Love by Tarryn Fisher and it was phenomenal.

What is your favourite book?

I have a lot. I rate them by genre, but my very first favorite was The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton. I can still quote that book by heart.

Who is your favourite author?

I love John Grisham. His books are epic and never disappoint. I also adore Colleen Hoover.

What is your favourite film?

Again, I have so many. One that I never get tired of is Ginger and Cinnamon. It’s an Italian film and I don’t speak Italian. But I’ve seen it so many times I no longer need to read the subtitles.

What is your favourite TV show?

Right now, my favorite show is Shameless. I also love Game of Thrones, but they killed Jon Snow, so I’ll have to reevaluate how I feel about it when the new season begins.

Quick-fire questions:

Chocolate or ice cream? Chocolate!
Paperback or ebook? Paperback forever!
Dogs or cats? Dog, of course
Go out or stay in? Stay in, unless it’s summer then I’m out!
Summer or winter? Summer!

AUTHOR BIO

Nicole was born and raised in California. She claims to be a San Francisco native, however she’s lived in both Northern and Southern California. She credits her creativity to the fact that she attended 12 schools between kindergarten and her senior year in high school. Her nomadic childhood allowed her to reinvent herself often. Some might say she was a liar. While others see the stories she told as a coping mechanism. Twelve schools, in six cities, in twelve years – give her a break. Today she channels her storytelling ability into writing novels. Long story short – kids that lie become writers.
